I am not the person who posted the above statement, but let me explain
why *I* am concerned about ChipRAM.

I have an A4K with a PIV graphics card running the latest version of
Picasso96. I have OS3.5 and BB1 installed. I have read the FAQ on
the Amiga OS3.5 web pages and I am not running any of the patches that
they state cause problems with OS3.5. I am using WBCtrl to use
FastRAM instead of ChipRAM for icons.

But my system still uses ChipRAM when opening directories on the WB
(something it did not do under OS3.1). Displaying directories with
large numbers of files is noticeably slower because it is using
ChipRAM. There is a limited number of directories that I can have
open at any one time because ChipRAM is limited. I don't like them
but I could live with those quirks.

However, the biggest problem I have is with ChipRAM that is not all
returned when the directory windows are closed. There is a serious
ChipRAM leak, and when it is all gone the system crashes. *That* is
why I am concerned about ChipRAM.

I realize that not all people have this problem, but from what I have
read there are a significant number who do. There seems to be a lot
of confusion on this list, so let me try to put this in plain terms:

WBCtrl does not stop ChipRAM useage for everyone!

I have seen people advize the use of WB2Fast. It does indeed seem to
work. However I am reluctant to use it since I have seen reports from
some very knowledgeable people who clain that WB2Fast does some nasty
hacking.
