I "lose" 12.5MB just booting my machine, and it's not basic at all, I
have lot's of things running in the background.

I'll bet I forgot something, but hey I think you get the picture ;))
I think 12.5MB to all of this is OK, but if H&P would/could do
some hokuspokus, so I could fit it in 4MB, I would'nt complain ;))
Try boot a vanilla system and the run avail, it will give you
a much nicer result I think.
PPL. keeps forgetting, every single program you start in your
ss/us eats a little memory, and it all adds up.
