A /VERY/ helpful explanation, Michael. Thank you very much. I hope I
haven't accidentally changed any of your meaning by shortening it in
the quote above. OTHER READERS PLS READ THE ORIGINAL.

It seems from what you say that all the worries are unnecessary.

It has worked so far and I see no reason to doubt your advice. I have
a niggling worry about the A1200 because you dealt only with other
models but I'd rather not damage the cable unless it is essential to
do so.
