Did you reformat the partitions after installing the new filesystem. ??
I didn't initially after installing 3.5 & strange things happened to me
on a couple of my 8 FFS-INTL partitions...
After updating the FS & reformatting & changing the block size
to 1024 bytes instead of 512,
everything is hunky-dory now, it's even noticably faster.....
No more drive troubles since.....
