This triggered a memory here. BB1 includes a new HDToolBox, which
now defaults to higher buffer and blocksize settings. These, of
course, take more memory. You haven't by chance changed either of
these settings for your hard drives, have any of you?

This didn't occur to me earlier, because I have been using higher
numbers for both of these for years now.
