Subject: | Memory Use with BB1 |
From: "John S. Burger" <jsburger@xmission.com>
Has anyone noticed a larger than normal amount of memory being used after
installing Boing Bag 1?
I copied my OS3.1 boot partition to a bootable ZIP disk before upgrading to
OS3.5. I also copied my OS3.5 boot partition to a ZIP disk before
installing the Boing Bag.
I have 2 megs of Chip RAM and 42 megs Fast and I use a Gfx card. Since
installing BB1 I have actually run out of RAM a few times when I had 4 or 5
screens open. This never happened with OS3.1 or the original OS3.5. So, I
started checking and found that with BB1 I have 7 megs less RAM available
after I boot than with either 3.1 or straight 3.5.
I am not running anything different with BB than with 3.1 or 3.5. I use the
same S-S and U-S and they are all almost identicle. Just a few minor
differences with BB like WBCtrl and the V43 DT instead of the 3.5 DT.
Checked both of those and no difference.
It is not a memory leak I don't think. When I boot 3.1 or 3.5 I have 27
megs Fast and 1.9 megs Chip left after the boot. With the Boing Bag I only
have 20 megs Fast and 1.9 megs Chip.
I can not imagine what in the BB would use 7 megs more RAM. It has been
years since I have run out of RAM such that I couldn't open a screen or
window.
Has anyone else noticed this?
John
