I hope no-one will be offended if I list some crucial entries in a
fragment of my Startup-sequence. The purpose is to show what I have
learnt, from this MList and from other e-mail correspondence, that are
the necessary parameters in order to get trouble-free performance out
of the following system enhancements when they are all working
together in an AGA system under OS3.5:

1. HappyENV, which no-one should fail to use,

2. the /LATEST/ version of FBlit (i.e. ver3.51a), together with
3. WBCtrl, for a /vast/ improvement in system performance,
almost eliminating the ChipRAM glass ceiling as well as
speeding up graphics by 10% to 20%

With the following in St-Seq, I get..
- A very stable AGA Productivity 680x512 system - doesn't crash;
- Signif.more speed. (See the realtime test in FBlit2.47.lha);
- About 200k to 300k more ChipRAM than I had before I inserted
FBlit and WBCtrl;
- No funny behaviour...
: No memory loss after opening/closing an Icon Info panel;
: No amazing gain in ChipRAM after saving Locale.prefs;
: No ChipRAM loss due to GlowIcons;
: No ChipRAM loss after opening/reclosing a window;
- Much reduced ChipRAM usage by all applications. I can open
more and more and more things, leaving windows open all over
the place, listing an enormously long downloads directory,
running applications together that in the past I would never
have dared to do, and ChipRAM only inches its way downwards;
- All my ChipRAM comes back when I close it all again;
- None of the risks from the bugs in FBlit2.63a;
- No problem with /ANY/ applications or with any graphic
intensive game/sims like JetPilot, Quake, VirtualGP;
- Speeded-up text scrolling.

I am not telling you this to show how clever I am. It is the blokes
who wrote all this software who deserve 110% of the credit. All I
have done is to find out from them how to make the best use of it.

Notice how early in the St-Seq FBlit comes.
Notice especially the parameters. Miss one of them and it goes wrong
in one way or another.
Don't ask me to explain what these things do. I count myself as
fairly clued up on the Amiga system but this FBlit stuff is way over
my head. (What the hell does "SIMPLEGELS" do!!?! I just know from
what I've been told that this is how you need to set it all up.

I do hope this will help clear up some of the confusion.

Jw.
