Norway solve goalkeeping dilemma

Published: April 15, 1998

The new Norwegian goalkeeper is Thomas Myhre who looks certain to play against Denmark in Copenhagen next week.

Coach Egil Olsen will give Myhre the chance to stake his claim to a World Cup place as the two other Norwegian goalkeepers basd in England, former number one Frode Grodas and Espen Baardsen, are no longer playing first team football for Tottenham Hotspur. Myhre has been in fine form for Everton and will be playing first team football for the rest of the season while his rivals are unlikely to start many more games for the ailing North London club as the domestic season in England comes to an end.

The only either new cap for the Norwegians is the Molde FK defender Daniel Berg Hestad as Alf Inge Haaland, Eric Mykland and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are dropped. Olsen has maintained that a player needs to be playing for his first team is unlikely to be considered for the international squad and his latest selection bears this policy out.
