Phony war is over for Nigeria

Published: April 03, 1998

Nigeria have confirmed a friendly with European Champions Germany on April 22nd in Cologne with a bold message of intent from new coach Bora Milutinovic.

The West Africans are undefeated in their three matches so far under Milutinovic and he is threatening to play his full first team against Germany later this month. He has had to contend with numerous absences through club duties as most of his squad are playing in Europe and few remain in the domestic league. This makes it hard for them to meet up and the former coach of the US and Mexico has made do with working with young players and fringe members of the Olympic champions set up. For Germany, who lost 2-1 to Brazil in Stuttgart last week, the full side is being assembled with a view to maintaining the same squad for the World Cup Finals.
