Cameroon go back to the future

Published: April 01, 1998

Cameroon have appointed Claude Le Roy as the coach who will lead them through the World Cup Finals.

Le Roy was the coach of the Cameroon side from 1985 to 1988 and is presently the sporting director for Paris St. Germain and will have a three month contract.

Present coach Jean Ongueme will stay on as an assistant to the new coach.

Cameroon had announced their plans to play 22 friendlies before the Finals but the first job for the new coach will be trying to arrange some matches and whether to proceed with the ambitious fixture list that Cameroon were trying to put together.
