So the second womens final of the season went to penalties (see below). Liverpool took the lead after 22 mins, a quick break out, a pass to the left wing and cross to Karen Burke who volleyed home from 10 metres. Croydon equalised in 38th min, a great shot by Hope Powell from 25 metres, into roof of net.

Several players were carrying injuries and then tiredness led to a lack of scoring chances, though both sides hit the bar. Note, Croydon played on Thursday evening.

Two Liverpool players hit the post and the 5th pen went way over the bar, by a player who had only 2 mins of play, but scored the last pen against Arsenal. England Internationals, Hope Powell, Brenda Sempare and Tina Mapes scored for Croydon and one was saved, by Rachael Brown, Liverpool's 15 year old keeper, who also was carrying an injury. She is the youngest player to appear in a FA or WFA Cup Final over its 25 year history. It also beat the mens record of Paul Allen.

Wembley took the lead after just 5 mins. The Belles scored twice in a few mins at the end of the first half. Into injury time at the end of the match, the Belles gave away a penalty, a trip which was so crazy. No more goals in 30 mins extra-time. One missed pen by a Belles player gave Wembley their first National title.
