Soccer-Romario pulls muscle in club match

RIO DE JANEIRO, May 6 (Reuters) - After setting up the winning goal, Brazilian World Cup striker Romario limped off with a pulled muscle in a match his Flamengo side won 1-0 against Friburgense on Wednesday.

Romario pulled up as he was chasing a ball early in the second half of his team's away win in the Carioca (Rio de Janeiro state) championship clutching the back of his right leg.

He watched the rest of the match grimacing from the sidelines.

A Flamengo doctor estimated that Romario would be out of action seven to 10 days and Romario would be examined further on Thursday.

Romario's winning goal brought Flamengo to within one point of leaders Vasco da Gama in the third stage of the competition.

Romario was included in the Brazilian World Cup squad named Tuesday and also in the starting line-up for their opening match with Scotland on June 10, which was unveiled by coach Mario Zagallo.

Flamengo central defender Junior Baiano, also named in the team, gave the sort of performance that will leave Brazilian fans apprehensive.

He twice pulled down Friburgense players in the penalty area but got away with it on both occasions as the referee waved play-on.
