Soccer-Dalian back on top form with 5-1 victory
BEIJING, May 4 (Reuters) - Dalian Wanda kept their grip on
the Chinese professional soccer league at the weekend, crushing
Shandong Luneng 5-1 at home in the ninth round, the Xinhua news
agency said.
Wanda, who are going for a third consecutive title, notched
up three goals in the first 20 minutes of the match on Sunday,
before hitting another two in the first six minutes of the
second half.
Xing Rui scored a consolation goal in the 54th minute for
the visiting side.
Defending champions Wanda have netted 25 goals and conceded
just four in nine league games since new coach Xu Genbao
introduced a more attacking game plan at the start of the
season.
Dalian now have a four-point lead in the professional league
over second-placed Shanghai Shenhua, who kept up the pressure on
the league leaders with a 3-1 away victory over Chinese Army.
A double from Brazilian international Moura and one from
Xiao Jian sealed the match for Shenhua but Pan Yi managed to
pull one back for the home side from a penalty.
In Chengdu, capital of southwestern Sichuan province,
Sichuan Quanxing had to settle for a goalless draw with
Vanguards Huandao after two goals were disallowed.
In Sunday's other matches, Beijing Guoan maintained their
unbeaten run with a 2-1 win over Qingdao Hainiu at home, and
Shenzhen Pingan held Shenyang Haishi to a 1-1 tie.
Guangzhou Songri drew 0-0 with Wuhan Yaqi, and Yanbian
Aodong took their third victory this season, beating Guangzhou
Apollo 2-0 on home turf.
