BLUES WOMEN ROLL IN VEGAS OVER VALENTINE'S!

The Blues Women's Adult Team, currently in first place in the U.S. Adult Ladies Soccer League along with a few youth players competed over the Valentine's day weekend at the Silver Mug Invitational in Las Vegas, Nevada. Youth players included on the roster are: Corrine Briers (U18 Blues JR), Christine Gluck (U18 Blues SR [Nebraska]) Abby Gutowski (U17 Nomads JR), and Lyndsey Smart (U17 Nomads JR).
The tournament started on Saturday the 15th, featured some of the nation's top women's sides and world class superstars Julie Foudy and Brandi Chastain among others, and was held at the Silver Bowl Soccer Fields off of Boulder Highway. U18 Blues coach Hugh Donald guided the women throughout the competition and got support from Blues coaches Tad Bobak and Larry Draluck when they arrived on Monday the 17th for the quarterfinals.

In order to get to the quarterfinals, the Blues had to come in first or second in their pool after the first five games. Game #1 vs Salteaters (Utah), Game #2 vs Prost (Colorado), Game #3 vs Dallas Lightning (Texas), Game #4 vs Trintoc Premier (Arizona), Game #5 vs Santa Clara Sporting. In the quarterfinals the Blues took on and defeated Columbine (Colorado) by a score of 2-0. Their championship hopes were dashed when they played National Champion Sacramento Storm, whose roster includes Julie Foudy, Jen Lalor, and Brandi Chastain. Although the Blues put up a great fight, fitness became a factor and the Storm took the game 2-0. The Storm then went on to easily take the tournament over the San Francisco Vikings 5-0. This was the 10th year the Blues have entered the Silver Mug.
