SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BLUES
COACHING STAFF

The Blues offer a qualified professional coaching staff of soccer experts with proven track records in player development. The Blues do not allow parents to coach their daughters!

The top girl's coaching staff in Southern California includes:

LARRY DRALUCK: DIRECTOR OF COACHING

Larry Draluck is a Nationally Licensed USSF "A" Level Coach. He began his college soccer career when he accepted a four year scholarship to attend C.S.U. in Los Angeles where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Physical Education. During his senior year, Larry was named Most Valuable Player on a team that went to the NCAA Championship game and was ranked Number One in the Nation.

After his college playing career, Larry went on to play professional soccer for UAG in Guadalajara, Mexico; then returned to the United States finishing up his playing career by being selected to The United States National Maccabiah team that competed in Tel Aviv, Israel, 1985.

A former Division I Head Coach for both Men's and Women's soccer, Larry began his youth coaching career in 1984 when he started the first Girl's team at South Pasadena High School. Over the last 16 years he has remained heavily involved in all levels of youth and club soccer having led his teams to several state championships. Larry has also been a part of Cal South's Olympic Development Program since the program's early days in 1984; his former and current players fill rosters of State, Regional, National, College, as well as Professional Teams.

HUGH DONALD: BLUES STAFF COACH-UNDER 17 & 18

The Blues struck gold when Hugh Donald agreed to join the coaching staff and assume responsibility for the U17 and U18 Girls. Hugh was born in Glasgow, Scotland. As a youth, Hugh used to earn a little extra money by collecting ginger boatles (bottles) and cashing them in for three thrupence (pence) a bottle. He attended Craigbank H.S. in Glasgow and went on to study at Cardonald College in Glasgow during the period of 1976-80 where he earned a degree in electrical engineering.

Hugh turned his youth soccer career into a professional one. In 1979 he was voted youth player of the year in his debut with the adult pro team Airdrie in Glasgow. The following season he accepted a pro contract with the team. In search of a challenge, in 1981 Hugh made the difficult decision to leave his native Scotland and come to the United States. His worked as a car salesman as he continued to play both pro and semipro soccer for the Santa Monica Waves and Hollywood Stars respectively.

It was in Santa Monica that Hugh began coaching girls at the High School. From 1986-95 as varsity coach, he was influential in developing the Viking's program, guiding them to the CIF playoffs in all of his seasons but one. Also during this time Hugh became heavily involved in youth club soccer. He has coached several youth teams and during the past four years has been recognized as one of Southern California's top youth coaches.

Staying busy off the soccer field, Hugh has a wife Christine (also from Glasgow) who works as a legal secretary, and a son Nicolas, age six, and juggles his electrical contractor's business. Among his outstanding qualities are his sharp wit, sense of humor and his positive outlook in life. The girls love to play for him, he gets the most from his players even though we sometimes need a translator to get through his thick Scottish accent.

RICH MANNING: BLUES STAFF COACH-UNDER 16

In only his third season as Varsity Coach for Girl's at Los Alamitos High School, Rich Manning has guided his Griffins to back to back California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Championships in Southern California (1996 & 1997), and was recognized as Girl's Coach of the year the past two seasons. Before Los Alamitos, Rich served six years as Varsity Boy's coach at Servite High School in Anaheim.

Rich was an all star player at Crespi High School in Encino, where in 1982, he earned "All CIF" honors as a forward. He took his soccer talent to Santa Clara University where he played for Ralph Perez, the former U.S. Men's National Team Assistant in the 1990 World Cup. During his career at Santa Clara, Rich also received coaching from Steve Sampson, current U.S. Men's National Team Coach. When Sampson took over the Bronco's program in 1995, he named Rich captain of the team. Rich Manning graduated from Santa Clara in 1986 where he was selected to the "All Far West" regional, and twice to the "All Pacific" soccer conference teams.

A great role model for the kids and a true educator, Rich took time out to complete his Master's degree in education at California State University at Fullerton. He has taught high school math for the past ten years and always offers math tutorial services to Blues players in return for a home cooked meal.

SKIP JARVIS: BLUES STAFF COACH-UNDER 15

Skip Jarvis is a native Southern Californian born and raised in Redondo Beach. He turned his athletic ability at Bishop Montgomery High School towards baseball and earned a college scholarship at California State University in Los Angeles. During his baseball career at CSULA he was a three time C.C.A.A. "All Conference" selection and eventually became a semiprofessional player in Kansas in 1972.

Skip began coaching soccer in 1986 for the San Juan Capistrano A.Y.S.O. program as his children grew up playing the game. Taking his practical experience as a college athlete, Skip applied principles of his own athletic success into his soccer coaching and was quite successful. So much so, he was asked to take his A.Y.S.O. team and form a San Juan club team for girls in 1989. That club team, the San Juan "Rip curl", eventually was split in two to form the first ever Southern California Blues teams. The rest is history which is still being written.

From the club's earliest days, Skip Jarvis has been a tremendous asset to the Blues. He was an original member of the coaching staff and has followed the Blues' philosophy all the way through it's development. A founding member of the board of directors Skip has been instrumental in getting the club off the ground. Without a child on the team, he coaches the current Blues U15 team as well as the San Juan club's U17 boys.

Skip is one of those rare coaches who knows how to motivate and get the most and a little bit more out of his players. He is a player's coach who always stresses a winning attitude. Skip's players enjoy being on his teams except when it comes to physical conditioning at the end of the practice session.

TAD BOBAK: BLUES STAFF COACH-UNDER 13 & 14

Professional, college, amateur and youth, Tad Bobak has coached it all. Bobak has worked with the LA Aztecs of the NASL, he was an assistant coach at USC, UCLA and Cal State-Los Angeles. Until recently, Tad was the Head Coach of the UC Santa Barbara women's soccer program. Included in Tad's coaching experience is a stint as assistant coach for the U.S. Women's National Team in 1987 under Anson Dorrance.

Since 1982 Tad has been the Girl's U17 ODP coach developing the talents of some of the finest girls in the nation. Along with UC Irvine Director of Soccer Marine Cano, Tad has taken the lead in developing Southern California's ODP. That effort has had long-term positive effects for our U.S. Women's National Team. Several prominent women's players have come out of Southern California, including Julie Foudy, Joy Fawcett and Carin Gabarra.

One of Tad's goals was to create a club with a hierarchy of teams beginning at the youth level and ending with a powerful women's side. In 1985 he founded the Southern California Blues Adult Women's Team and his goal was achieved when Draluck formed the youth program in 1990. The Blues now sponsor nine youth feeder teams leading up to Tad's Adult Women's Team.

RANDY DODGE: BLUES STAFF COACH-UNDER 11 & 12

The Blues once again fell into good fortune when Randy's services became available in May of 1997. Randy comes to the Blues after a successful three year stint as a staff coach with the powerful Mission Viejo Soccer Club.

Randy flat out loves to coach and teach. He currently holds the USSF "B" coaching license. Along with his coaching responsibilities with the Blues, Randy finds time to assist CYSA-South Director of Coaching & UC Irvine Men's Coach, George Kuntz with the men's program at Irvine. He also recently accepted the position as varsity coach for girl's at nearby Aliso Niguel High School. Take a breath, if that were not enough, Randy is the CYSA-South District III Coaching Director responsible for coaching instruction as well as licensing in the district.

Growing up in Apple Valley California, Randy was a three sport athlete at Apple Valley High School. He played varsity soccer for three years and was part of a team that won back to back to back league championships, leading his team in assists his senior year.

Enrolling at Southern California College, Randy played midfield and became captain of the 1993-94 team. He was selected to play in the 93-94 NAIA Far West All-Star game. While playing soccer at SCC, Randy found time to hit the books and earn his Bachelor's Degree in Biblical Studies. It was at this time that he met his better half, his wife Stephanie. The two of them live with their "cool" (Randy's description) 20 month old son Chase in Aliso Viejo. With his coaching background, no doubt Randy is anxious to get his son out on the soccer field.

Aside from his obvious knowledge of the game and coaching experience, Randy's greatest strengths are in his approach to teaching. Another great role model, he is extremely hard working, honest, and loyal. He demonstrates a true concern for the big picture and is able to establish a positive working relationship with his players. In an effort to further his education Randy is currently working on his Master's Degree in Education.

Yes the Blues are lucky and with people like Randy Dodge on the staff they are bound to get even luckier. Randy if another child is in the cards, please speak to Stephanie about having a daughter. We need players and although we do not allow parents to coach their own daughters, maybe we will be able to keep you around.

MARY NAIMIE: BLUES STAFF COACH-UNDER 10

In her debut season as a Blues staff coach, Mary Naimie brings a host of outstanding qualities to the Blues program. She was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Fairfax, Virginia before moving to San Clemente, California.

Mary began playing organized soccer and volleyball at the age of seven, she ended up a two sport athlete at San Clemente H.S. where she earned all-league honors in both sports. She graduated from San Clemente H.S. in 1984 and was named scholar-athlete of the year as well as class valedictorian.

Enrolling at UC San Diego in 1984, Mary chose to play college volleyball rather than soccer and her decision paid off as twice (1984 & 1986) during her volleyball career, she was able to win the NCAA Division III National Championship. Along with her athletic prowess, Mary was successful in the class room as well, majoring in sociology, minoring in psychology, and graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1988.

Dedicated to her education and service, Mary obtained her Master's Degree at UC Berkeley in 1991 and is currently a full-time psychotherapist, earning her state license (LCSW) in 1994. She works for Bristol Park Medical Group as the child and adolescent specialist in the Mission Viejo behavioral health department.

Her soccer coaching began in 1994 with three outstanding seasons in AYSO. She was so successful she was asked to take on the San Clemente All Star and Tournament teams. She also coached high school soccer over the summer of 1996, and currently holds an advanced coaching certificate having attended several weekend long clinics. If that is not enough, Mary is a certified regional referee for the AYSO.

Although Mary will be in her first season with the Blues, she shows tremendous promise as a Blues coach. Her academic record alone speaks for itself and serves as a model for her players to follow. She has a serious approach to the game and understands the need to place demands on her players and teams in a positive and healthy way. Most of all she has a love for the game, coaching and working with young people. In Mary the Blues have found a diamond that will shine even brighter with time.
