Whale Songs

The humpback male whale sings. The female humpback does not sing. No one knows for sure why the humpbacks sing, but people think the songs have meanings to other whales.

The humpback male whale can sing for as long as twelve hours. A song usually has sounds of snores, squeaks, moans, grunts, groans, chirps, and cries.

Scientists can record these sounds by using hydrophones, which are microphones that can be placed in water. Scientists have discovered that these songs have patterns.

Humpback whale songs are pretty interesting.
