When China, a tiny, blue brindle female, first came to us from Idaho, she was
too afraid to respond to human contact. The stress of the immunization and
"Cat Checking" procedures was too much for China, who cowered in the
corner, whimpering and shaking. Troy and Devon Williams, who do the cat
tolerance testing, volunteered to foster China and save her from further
stress. After a month of foster care, she was emerging from her shell. She
was placed in a home, but was terrified when she was walked in the
neighborhood (a necessity since the man lives in an apartment). After
weeks of working with China, he just could not get her to "go" on the walks.
The Williams picked her up and took her to their home. As soon as they
opened the door, China ran in at full blast, took a nose dive into the couch,
cuddled up with several of the five cats she missed so much and went to
sleep. Troy and Devon are certain that China was heard to say, "That was a
nice vacation, but I sure am glad to be home!"
In the picture, China is curled up with her best pal Butchy, a
boxer/springer spaniel mix. They have sleep-overs when Butchy's owners go
away. Butchy also accompanied China on her vacation with the family in the
high Sierras. China has learned to play the way Butchy does and they have a
wonderful time together. She also loves to visit Grandma Joyce and Grandpa
Tom along with their greyhounds Robber, Max Ruthie, Magic!, Andy and
Catherine.
