Description:

One of my family's first purchases for our brand new PC in the early 1980's was a game titled, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? If memory serves, the game came with an Almanac and Road Maps. We thought it was great fun, sitting around our CGA monitor (some of you have never even HEARD of CGA!) Carmen is back, wild as ever, thinking of all sorts of unusual heists to commit and has immigrated to the U.S.A. in hopes of creating more chaos than we Americans are used to (as if that's possible!) This time, the package includes the "ACME Agent Handbook" and a copy of "The World Almanac of the U.S.A." to help you in your crime search. The program also features interaction with the Chief, as played by Lynne Thigpen on the PBS game show. Hi Chief...ready to get started?

Features:

  • Builds U.S. geography knowledge
  • Enhances Almanac Reference Skills
  • Electronic Database research skills
  • Reading skills
  • Map Reading
  • Deductive Reasoning
  • Explore Mode allows the database to be used for school work.
  • ACME Internet Headquarters web site access.
  • ACME Good Guides provide tours and facts.

Notes:

Where in the U.S.A. is Carmen Sandiego? installed quickly and presented no problems when we played. The music is appropriate for each area of the country, which adds to the fun. You can take a virtual tour with an ACME Good Guide in any of the 50 states! We've had a lot of fun with this title, just like we did years ago. This version takes full advantage of multimedia technology and will teach your child while they have fun. One word of caution, though - while requirements call for a 486/33, that's quite optimistic. Our 486/66 surpasses the requirements and was still slow to load the sequences. Where in the U.S.A.???

Reactions:

Where in the U.S.A. is Carmen Sandiego? will be loved by parents for its educational content; kids will know they're having fun! My entire family enjoyed it - the toddlers watched on as we solved cases, and our 12 year old finally did get left alone to try it out - she loved it too. GOTCHA! Yay!
