Age Group: Age 4 to 8, Age 8 and Up
Type: Science
Price: $29.95 US

Description:

Thinkin' Science is exactly what it says: science that thinks! Instead of presenting the player with rote answers and questions, Edmark encourages the player to use deductive reasoning by using a series of tools to retrieve information about the problem.

There are five different environments in which to learn science facts: Day and Night, Fun Physics, What Did You See?, Animal Tracking, and Mystery Cave. Day and Night teaches about the relationship between the sun and the earth,Fun Physics lets you experiment with the forces of motion by using ramps, catapults, and pendulems, and in Mystery Cave you have to solve the problem of what's in the cave by asking what characteristics the object has(similar to the board game Guess Who? ) Animal Tracking teaches the difference in animals and What Did You See? improves visual memory.

Your child can either play the challenges presented in these five sections, or explore three of the sections: Fun Physics, Day and Night, and Animal Tracking. As the child plays, treasure can be earned and printed out to play with!

Features:

  • Hands-on learning
  • Deductive reasoning
  • Printable activities

Technical Aspects:

There were no problems in installation, and the game ran quickly and allowed us to click through dialogue. The docs were descriptive and helpful in playing the game, and the game's graphics were exactly as they were depicted on the box.

Report and Conclusions:

This is definitely an excellent addition to anyone's educational library! The activities are fun and informative, and there is a parent control area for the parent to track the child's progress. You can also manually set the controls in this area for each separate environment, which is an option that I would recommend for the parents of 2nd graders, as the beginning settings are too easy for them.
