Description:

Mamma didn't tell you there'd be days like this because she couldn't imagine such things! Cows flying around, rain in the Sahara and no traffic jams in LA - the truly bizarre events become reality when the machine that is our Earth breaks. And it's going to get worse if you don't get along and fix it. This role-playing game will take you to the center of the planet as you attempt to get the world turning again. Author/artist David Wiesner has done a superb job of creating the environments, including over 22 locations painted by hand as well as fully-rendered 3-D characters.

Features:

  • An intriguing storyline that's different each time you play.
  • Beautiful artwork throughout.
  • Great characterization - unique personalities.
  • Over 22 locations.
  • Over 20 hours of gameplay.
  • Over 1 hour of dialogue.

Technical Aspects:

The installation for The Day the World Broke was very simple and quick. The animations and videos ran with no problems whatsoever, although there were a few situations in which the game would become stuck in a loop - the characters would do the same thing over and over. Evidently there are problems running the Windows 95 version on some laptops, a hybrid disk with Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 took care of it.

Report and Recommendations:

This story draws you in so completely that you'll forget it's a game! The graphics are incredible throughout and the story keeps the interest high. The title is rated for children ages 9 and up - but many adults will enjoy it, as well. Talk to everyone! Be wary of the Mechanimals - some of them have their own agendas. Explore at your own pace but remember that tomorrow is in danger of being cancelled!
