Modern Media Ventures has released a series of 24 titles in this series, all edutainment titles priced under $10.00 US, targeted to ages 3 to 6 and up. They sent out Fishing for Rhymes and Rant's Sea Hunt for review.

Fishing for Rhymes

Join Gus as he goes fishing - this is a rhyme/matching game. The object is to click on a fish with a picture of something that rhymes with the picture on Gus' fishing lure. If the child clicks on the correct fish, , the lure reaches out and grabs it, puts it in the boat, the fish jumps out and swims off. When the child clicks on an incorrect object, the name of the object is spoken aloud.

There are several levels to this game and the harder ones substitute typed signs for the pictures. This game is a bit different from most we've seen and the kids thought it was great fun.

Rant's Sea Hunt

This game consists of an octopus telling Rant what to go get for him. Rant then dutifully turns into a submarine, swims to the ocean and brings back the object.

The game is great for the preschooler set, who loved seeing Rant turn into a sub and putter off. There are a number of levels in this game, with the instructions given to Rant getting more complex. The only problem was a bug we found - at one point, that octopus asks for items not out in the ocean...and asks and asks. After about 10 minutes of going back and forth, we set the next level to start and proceeded from there.

Now, if you're looking for intense videos/graphics and lots of sound effects and audio, you'll be disappointed by this program. Its saving grace is the educational content - it covers the topic at hand thoroughly throughout the levels of the game.
