Description:

Reading Maze is an educational product from Great Wave Software designed for students ages 3-7. Children practice reading skills while negotiating a maze in search of objects. When they find a specified object in their list, they must then answer a series of questions correctly in order to obtain the object. The curriculum range is from Pre-k to 2nd grade, and you can choose which grade range and also which particular level you want to play the maze in.

Reading Maze is very strong on letter and word recognition and also following directions. There are no phonics or teaching modes, this is a game that focuses on practice of skills already learned in school. There are many options when setting up individual student accounts, such as which skill or level and you can even add your own level to the list, for example, if you want your child to practice a certain letter or word, you can add a new level with those instructions added. You can also choose the difficulty of the maze. Once a maze is completed, a book will be added to the bookcase showing the objects collected in that maze.

Features:

  • Mazes
  • Following directions
  • Letter Recognition
  • Word Recognition

Technical Aspects:

This version came on floppies, and was very simple to install. There were no problems in running the game.

Report and Conclusions:

Reading Maze is a good program for practising reading skills, following directions and letter recognition, but that is as far as it goes. This title was published in 1994, and it would definitely benefit if revised with today's technology and phonics added.
