Description:

Brilliant Digital Entertainment is a new company that is specializing in multi-path movies where you, the player, decide what path the movie will take. These movies are on CD-ROM and are designed for systems with MMX, but you can play them without it. In Popeye and the Quest for the Wooly Mammoth, Popeye and Olive Oyl are hunting for the wooly mammoth to collect a million dollar reward, but they will have to hurry, or Brutus will get it! To complicate matters, Swee'Pea keeps getting lost. Throughout the movie, you are presented with choices of what actions the character will take, but you had better be quick, or the movie will resume and choose for you!

Features:

  • Wonderful graphics for MMX
  • Movie where you get to choose certain actions
  • Projector that will enable you to play other movies found on BDE's site

Technical Aspects:

The minimum requirements are for a P133, P166 recommended, and that requires a fast machine indeed! On my P100, the video is slow and choppy, so I would say the requirements are right.

Reactions:

This movie is enjoyable, but short. Also, the major claim to fame of this multipath movie is the ability to choose your own path for multiple endings. Well, after we played it awhile it became apparent that there is no true choice, each decision presents you with two paths, but there is one main path throughout. Obviously, there is a right choice and a wrong one, if you take the wrong path, after a short side trip you are back where you were, and have to take the other path. So much for the "multiple plot twists" as claimed on the box. However, the graphics are great even on my machine which doesn't meet the requirements and doesn't have MMX, the story is cute, and the price is right!
