Description:

Muppet Treasure Island a role-playing game in which you, Hawkins, must find the hidden treasure. Along the way, you'll meet the characters from the Muppet Treasure Island movie. Stevenson the Parrot is your guide throughout the adventure. He'll fly onto your shoulder to offer hints and is always nearby. He'll also carry various objects you pick up during gameplay under his wing! You'll find action hotspots (an audio or video response), moveable hotspots (things to pick up) and navigational hotspots (move to another view.) The interface is very simple to use, and the documentation included really isn't necessary. You'll explore the Benbrook Inn, Bristol, The Hispaniola, and finally, Treasure Island. Pay close attention to the clues along the way - you'll need certain information and objects to help in your quest.

Features:

  • Four areas to explore
  • The Muppets add to the fun but don't overshadow the game.
  • Fun games like Pops' Potpourri Pie Shoot and Fire the Cannon.
  • Lots of clickables, puzzles, games.
  • Explore the Hispaniola from stem to sterm.

Comparisons

At this time, the most appropriate comparison would be with IBM's Pinocchio, which was also released recently. Pinocchio is a much darker game (graphically speaking) and is designed for older children. Muppet's Treasure Island is bright, offers a good variety of activities and tries to provide the hilarity the Muppets are known for.

Reactions

The only problem with this game, as my kids pointed out, is that it's really too complicated for smaller children to play - and they're the ones who love the Muppets! The older children enjoyed the game play but didn't care for the Muppet characters' involvement. In other words, if your kids are old enough to play the games, they may be too old to want to play with the Muppets.
