Description:

>So, you wanna have a little talk with your computer? Channel Surfer's Letters and Words is a way to get your budding computer nerd interested and interacting quickly. There are seven games included, and each one is activated and run by speech recognition technology. The games explain concepts such as left and right, over or under, before-after, big-small, near and far and in front or through.

Features:

  • Speech recognition software designed for preschoolers.
  • Learn concepts such as comparison and directions.
  • Enhances problem-solving skills.
  • Sound out letters and words.

Reaction:

The characters in this title are friendly and brightly colored, my kids loved them. They also enjoyed the idea of controlling what happened next by "commanding" the computer. But there are limitations: we'd suggest that the TV be turned OFF while trying to use Letters and Words. Our understanding is that version 2.0 will be out sometime this fall; we'll be looking forward to it. In the meantime, the recognition rate surprised us - most of the time it can understand what the child says. We even tried not responding, to see if the program truly waits for spoken input or is on a timer - it waits for input.
