Type: Thinking Games
Price: $30 US

Description:

Imagine landing in Europe during Medieval Times, with a goal of completing 10 quests. Each quest takes the adventurer through a medieval village in search of various objects to complete the quest. The village is rendered in 3D and allows full exploration of the environment. An on-line encyclopedia is included that features over 170 medieval definitions.

No, I'm not talking about the movie. The first quest is for fire. What's necessary for fire? That could be flint or even a bow and a stick. The adventure consists of walking around the village, asking the villagers for information about a component, and sometimes buying that piece. The villagers are live-action actors set in a medieval setting, such as a pub or a blacksmith shop.

Features:

  • nice graphics
  • good interface
  • 2 CDs of adventure
  • passable live action

Technical Aspects:

The interface is easy enough, with most functions handled by clicking the mouse to go in the direction on the scree, or clicking an action button in the control bar. The actors aren't especially gifted, but this isn't a Hollywood production, and the quality doesn't stand out as worse than average. The interface is clean, and easy to use. Every villager reacts differently and usually in character - the nun is helpful, while the village idiot is almost mean.

Report and Conclusions:

I was prepared to dislike this game - it is, after all, made by H+A Interactive (a company not known for quality software). In this case, H+A has created a decent product with moderate educational value and even a little fun. Kids who like adventure games may find this title exceptionally easy, and maybe a little frustrating in its ease, but it is still appropriate for a general audience.

There isn't much negative to say about the product, nor is there much to get excited about.
