Description:

The Chronicle Encyclopedia of History allows several ways to explore history, including a 3D "Time Tunnel" and a visual timeline. There are search features as well as video, graphics and illustrations, sounds and much more. It's approached from a 'you are there' angle, and brings history to life. This is an excellent source for information on world history - all four million years of it!

Features:

  • Biographies for 100 of history's greatest figures.
  • History in the Making articles - in-depth coverage.
  • Cross-referencing capabilities, searches.
  • Chronicle Online to expand the product.
  • Over 2,000 images, animations and rare archival video clips.
  • Over 4,000 news articles and 12,000 news briefs entries.

Technical Aspects:

We had no problems with installation or running this program. It does require DirectX 5.0, which is included in the installation package. While it is MMX enhanced, it is also compatible with non-MMX Pentium systems.

Report and Conclusions:

It's amazing to think this much information could be stored on one CD-ROM! DK Multimedia has done an excellent job of organizing this immense mass of information, harnessing it into easily understandable segments. Chronicle Encyclopedia of History covers four million years and was designed for ages 13 and up. My kids were fascinated about the earliest cultures, and this mom will be tying that interest into things like museum trips and other enrichment activities.
