Description:

A Color Clown Comes to Town is based on the Magic Castle Readers book series, which has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. This program teaches color as well as color concepts such as mixing to create new colors. There is an animated storybook children can listen to or play in, and there is an option for a teacher, parent, or child to record their voice reading the story. After the story, they are presented with the four activity choices: The Cleanup Game teaches color names and shades of toys, clothes, etc. The Squirt Room is a color matching game, squirting paint on a moving object. The Mixing Room is where the Color Clown helps kids mix colors. And, of course, there's the Painting Room - where there's a coloring book, markers, crayons, stickers, stamps and other tools all designed to enhance creativity. They can even save or print their creations.

Features:

  • Learn names of primary and secondary colors.

  • Mix primary colors and see the results.

  • Teaches typical colors of everyday objects.

  • Fosters creativity.

  • Teaches and reinforces reading skills.

Reactions:

When the box for this title arrived, my kids (3 and 4) insisted that we open it and try it out right away, which surprised me - the outer packaging is nice but not incredible. However, inside the box is a felt puppet of the Color Clown, which my son (3) immediately dubbed "Bubba" and began playing with. My daughter (4) wanted to play the game immediately and spent several hours having a wonderful time. Later that afternoon, I printed out a frame for her to color in along with an envelope that had Color Clown's picture on it. She immediately created a masterpiece to send to her grandma.

The Color Clown activities are all fun, with lots of encouragement and ideas for the kids. Each one presents the color names spelled out, as well as the object with which it's associated. We ran this title on both computers, our P-100 and the 486-66, and experienced no technical problems with installation or runtime.
