Description:

Color a Story in 3D features three classic stories: 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, Trojan Horse, and Gulliver's Travels, and each story includes 20 scenes for children to color using 63 Crayola colors and 18 textures, as they listen to the story. Children can print storybooks with or without text, and the CD-ROM plays the Odds Bodkin storytelling audio tracks on an audio CD player.

Features:

  • Images come to life in 3D.
  • 63 Crayola crayon colors
  • 18 textures
  • Blank Scribble Pad for experimenting.
  • Storytelling by Master Talesman Odds Bodkin.
  • Original music.

Technical Aspects:

Color a Story in 3D installed quickly and ran with no problems. The graphics provide a good variety of tools for artistic expression. Slide shows can feature your colored scenes or pre-colored scenes. Story scenes can be printed in color or black and white.

Report and Conclusions:

This title is rated for children ages 5 and up, although many 4 year olds would be able to work with it. Basically, kids color the pictures page by page as the story is read to them. We liked the 3D aspects and the details each color brings to a picture. This is a good way to introduce youngsters to classical literature, and options do allow for "coloring outside" the lines. But if you're looking for a program that truly enhances creativity and ties it into storytelling, Broderbund's Orly's Draw-a-Story probably comes closer to the mark.
