Type: Thinking Games

Description:

MGM Interactive's Babes in Toyland is inspired by the movie of the same name, and includes favorite Nursery Rhyme characters such as Humpty Dumpty, Jack & Jill and many others. There are games, puzzles, musical tunes, and kids will have a great time helping Jack and Jill find all the missing toys (taken by Crooked Man Barnaby and his cat, Scat) before Santa returns. But look out - Crooked Man Barnaby and Scat are lurking around and will do everything they can to keep you from your mission!

Features:

  • Rewards for each completed puzzle.
  • Three levels of difficulty.
  • Familiar Nursery Rhyme characters.
  • Games teach colors, shapes, matching and pattern recognition.

Technical Aspects:

We had no installation problems on the Pentium 100 system or the 486-66 system. On the Pentium system, we did get a couple of "scripting errors" that shut down the program but when we started, our progress had been saved, so this was only a minor annoyance. We were surprised at how smoothly the animations and sounds worked on the 486 system.

Report and Conclusions:

Well, "all the King's Horses and all the King's men" may not be able to help Humpty Dumpty, but YOU will be able to help him pull himself together! That gives my 4 year old a lot of satisfaction, she's always been fascinated with that rhyme. Don't expect any breathtakingly new ideas in this title - we've seen every one of these games in some shape or form in other software, but Babes in Toyland will keep nerds and nerdettes aged 3 to 8 busy during those frazzled pre-Christmas afternoons that will soon be upon us. After all, saving Santa is a worthy cause for any youngster!
