This original tale about the brave homesteaders brilliantly sidesteps the dramatics, and describes the destruction in a more practical way. Rather than scaring kids, this story teaches about the situation while offering a comfortable environment in which to learn. There are about 10 pages of coloring and 240 colors. Somehow a pink sky becomes less threatening. And a purple and yellow storm cellar is adventure rather than a bad scare. Jack Otis Moore tells an original story based on an incident in his father's infancy. The setting is the Texas Panhandle before World War I.

This storybook is top quality - The illustrations are very pleasing, the text is written below, and the narration is clear and pleasant. The pictures are initially black & white, and you can use a built-in 256 color paint program to color them whichever way you'd like. You can choose the option of saving your colored pictures or having the program revert back to the b&w.

After downloading one of the story .EXE files, move it into a new directory on a drive with about 15Mb available (the story will only use about half that much after installation). The downloaded file has all of the story components in a compressed form to speed up downloading. When you Run the downloaded .EXE (from Program Manager or the Start bar), it will restore all of the story files automatically.

Note that there will be TWO .EXE files in the new directory after you run the downloaded file. One is the download file (nnnDOWN.EXE), while the other is the story file (nnnSTORY.EXE). The nnnDOWN.EXE can be deleted to free up disk space.

The story .EXE can now be run from Program Manager or the Start bar.

To install the story on your desktop, you need to make a new program item (and a new group, if you choose). Icons for the desktop are included.
