Upon first seeing the program I commented on the brilliance of the idea, and this has been borne out by the progress of the children. I soon had a queue of children wanting to try it out, which would not happen if it were dull or difficult to use. The program has neat touches of detail, such as reddening the note being played during playback. Stepping one note at a time was very useful for beginners, as it is not possible to play back slowly enough for all eventualities. I have not used many computer programs, but found Recorder was easy to use and very rewarding.

This windows multimedia program is reviewed as "Superb" in Personal Computer World (October 95 CD) and has been expanded since. It also has a 5 star ZDNet rating. It will teach you how to play the descant (or tenor) recorder, how to read and write music, and lets you hear true recordings of International artist PIERS ADAMS playing various recorders. It shows which holes to cover for each note of any tune (even those you write yourself) and has graded tests. You can progress without knowing how to read music. The scores for any number of children can be stored. For use in schools or at home.
