Gigamath Playground Demo
Published by Decision Development Corporation

Age Group: Age 8 and Up
Type: Math
License: free demo

Description:

The worst math monsters come in the form of word problems. Kids can toss their frustration, and tackle terrifying text from several different directions. Practice rooms are decorated in themes: addition with art, subtraction with music, multiplication with science, and division with history. The word problems also reflect the themes. In this way, kids see how math is also used in many other subjects.

There are three games to play after practice: football, concentration, and tic-tac-toe. At this point, kids who have been practicing reap the rewards. In the football game, players answer word questions to keep the ball and push for the goal line. In tic-tac-toe, an "X" will only stay in the chosen square when the question is answered correctly. Then the concentration game gives kids a break from word problems, but cards show problems (rather than simply digits) and players have to figure out the arithmetic to match the cards.

Teachers will be able to keep track of individual students in the full version, but this option is disabled for the demo. The demo only offers the easy level and whole numbers, but the full game offers three levels of math with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.

For optimum performance, run in 256 colors.
