HyperCard is not shareware, it is a commercial product. The HyperCard Player, which will run most HyperCard stacks, is available for FREE from Apple. If you want to author your own stacks, you will need to purchase the full HyperCard product.

Getting the HyperCard Player

To run HyperCard stacks, you'll need the HyperCard Player, available free from the Apple Support Site. Unfortunately, they've set up the site so that they can move things around as needed, and I cannot bookmark the exact spot for you.

Go to the Search page and search for "HyperCard". Click [GO] on the HyperCard Player 2.35, and then look for it in that directory. There are quite a few "HC" files, look for the "HyperCard Player".

Please note that while the documentation from Apple says the HyperCard Player 2.3.5 requires System 7, it does not. James Perry was kind enough to verify that "the version does indeed work on the Mac LC running system 6.0.7 and having 2 MB RAM."

Getting System Software

HyperCard will run on systems from 6.05 or later. You can get System 6.08 and System 7.0 for free from the Apple Support Site.

Use the Search page and search for "SSW", which will get you some of the System 6.x files. Click on [GO] to get to that directory. Click on "Older System" in the directory path to get to the System 7.x files. You can also just use "browse" and follow the path: Apple.Support.Area | Apple.Software.Updates | US | Macintosh | System | Older_System |

If the above links don't work, go to the Apple Support Site and search. They move the links all the time.
