Lying in the center of the Leeward Islands, in the Caribbean, Anguilla
has a subtropical climate, the heat and humidity being tempered by trade
winds. Lumped by the UK into a joint colonial administration with St.
Kitts and Nevis, Anguillans took up arms to protect their dependent
status in 1967 when St. Kitts and Nevis were awarded internal self-government.
