- The development of the
School of Electrical Engineering is closely
related to the history of university education in Serbia. The first
lectures in electrical engineering at the university level date back from
1894. Professor Stevan Markovi} was the first lecturer and the founder
of the Chair for electrical engineering within the Engineering
department of the "Great School" of Belgrade. Only four years later,
in 1898, Prof. Markovi} had founded the first electrical engineering lab
. Ever since the electrical engineering had been studied within the
"Great School" which had grown into the University of Belgrade in
1905. The first degrees in electrical engineering had been awarded in
1922.
- The education in electrical engineering had been significantly
intensified after the reorganization of the Engineering department
which took place in 1935. The Mechanical engineering division had
been transformed into the Mechanical - Electrical engineering division
so that by the beginning of 1937. the four curricula were defined:
Mechanical engineering, Aeronautics, Power engineering,and
Telecommunications. Due to the lack of lab equipment the opening of
the fourth curriculum had to be postponed till the end of the second
World war. In 1946 the separate Electrical engineering division was
established. It grew into the School of electrical engineering in
1948, while its two curricula became divisions for
Power engineering
and
Telecommunications. In 1955, the third
division for
Engineering
physics was founded. Over the years the division for
Telecommunications
was extended to cover the education in
electronics, control and computing. The separate fourth division
for
Computer engineering and computer science
was established in
1987.
