Global Climate Observing System (GCOS)

On-Line Data and Information Management System

The Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) has been established to develop a dedicated observing system needed to meet the scientific requirements for monitoring the climate, detecting climate change, and predicting climate variations and change.

The GCOS On-Line Data and Information Management System (GOLDIS) is meant to provide access to information of interest to members of the climate change research community. This entry to GOLDIS is maintained at the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva, Switzerland (map).

This, version 1.0, is a prototype designed to test the feasibility of the hypertext approach to providing access to this information.

The following centers and organizations are currently participating in GCOS. Wherever possible, links are provided to the climate data sections of these organizations. In some cases, users must use custom software to download or order data from these organizations.
