Knight's Trip (c) 1997, Gheorghe SAVULESCU Welcome to "Knight's Trip" ! One of the most popular logic puzzles is the covering of the checkerboard using the knight. Put the knight somewhere on the classic (8x8) checkerboard, then start moving it to pass once and only once through each field on the board. While the problem is well known, I have found no attempts to solve this or a similar problem in a more general way. "Knight's Trip" solves the problem for all rectangular boards, everything being presented in an easy to follow hypertext form with plenty of graphics. For each board size, the text presents a specific solution, shows how to build a solution using solutions for smaller boards, or proves that no solution exists. In fact, this file solves two variants of this puzzle: it may be required or not that, after passing through all squares of the board, the knight jumps back to the starting field and closes the path. "Knight's Trip" is a Windows Help format file. Version 3.10 of WinHelp is the minimum requirement, but special provisions have been made to give a 'Windows 95' look for those who use this operating system. Currently, I do not have a computer of my own, so developing "Knight's Trip" was very (even excessively) long and difficult. Only with help from users, taking the form of registration, I can get the things I need for developing other shareware products. The registration fee is 5 to 10 U.S. dollars (USD), or an equivalent amount in one of the following currencies (the list is long, so I quote only the monetary symbols): ATS, AUD, BEF, CAD, CHF, DEM, DKK, EGP, ESP, FIM, FRF, GBP, GRD, IEP, ITL, JPY, NLG, NOK, PTE, SEK. There are two ways to get the money to me. In order of (my) preference: - Simply send banknotes; Warning: generally, the post makes no warranties for values, including money, enclosed in letters. - Send a postal money-order. Sorry, no credit cards. Sorry again, no checks. Send the money, together with your name and address, to: Gheorghe SAVULESCU str Valea Calugareasca 3, ap 63 77472 Bucharest 6 ROMANIA Thanks in advance for your support! Distributing "Knight's Trip" Permission is granted to distribute copies of "Knight's Trip" subject to the following conditions: - Distribute the self-installing archive KNIGHT10.EXE, and not separate components. - The file's contents should not be modified in any way. The whole file may be compressed with a standard packer in order to use less space on the distribution media or to decrease download time. Please name the archive "KNIGHT10.ext", where "ext" is the extension normally associated to the file packer used. (Note: I do not think the size reduction will be significant, 10% at most.) - It is not incorporated in another hardware or software product (but may be distributed on disks or CDs along with other shareware). It should be clear for the user that this is a stand-alone shareware product. - Distribution is either free of charge, or only a modest copying and distribution fee, to cover media and handling, is charged. It should be clear for the user that the amount charged, if any, is for the service of copying and distributing, and not for buying or licensing the contained shareware product. If you decide to compress the file, and your distribution site allowes users to examine online some files in the archives (the "README"-like files, for example), please include this README.TXT file along with KNIGHT10.EXE.
