Synchronization Point

A synchronization point specifies a relationship between a frame of one video to a frame of another video. A sync point provides information on what frame in one video was taken at the same time as the frame of another video, and therefore provide synchronization information.

Each sync point contains the following information:

Since the video frame number must be an integer, the adjustment value is used in the second video to reflect that the two videos are not sampled at the same time.

When each video is related to others with two or more synchronization points, Photo4D can derive both the "offset" and "speed" parameters for all the videos. Therefore, the central task is to create accurate synchronization points.

Synchronizing videos with the use of a sync point is generic in the sense that it can be used on both fixed and dynamic cam- era. However, this method is more complicated to use and its results tend to be less robust than the fixed camera calibration method.

This method should be use in the following two situations:

  1. as an alternative method for initial synchronization, especially for long videos, and;
  2. computing the synchronization parameters for dynamic cameras.
