Set Initial Camera Parameter

Photo4D is able to compute the camera parameters for all the images. However, it needs to know rough initial values for some parameters in order to start computation. The initial values need not be accurate. However, they have to be reasonable. For example, a photograph that was taken from the left side of the object should not be entered as though it was taken from the right.

Initial camera parameters are set in the Camera Parameter Window.

Before 3D computation, users must enter the rough camera location (Tx, Ty, Tz) and look-at direction as initial values.

The default values for others parameters are generally usable as initial values. Refer to Camera Parameter Window for more information.

See Tips for Setting Camera Parameter for more information.

Refer to Input Field for how to change the parameter values.

The Preview Window can be a great help in setting up the initial values of camera locations and look at directions. You can simply "walk" the camera to the desired locations:

  1. In the Camera Parameter window, select a current camera and press the "To Preview" button. This opens the Preview window and places the viewport using the current camera parameters. What you see in the Preview window is what you would see if looking though the current camera.
  2. Examine the location of the X, Y, Z axes and the location of the reference points. Compare the location of these elements in corresponding Image Windows. Navigate the viewport if necessary, so that it more accurately reflex the actual camera location.
  3. In the Camera Parameter Window, press the "From Preview" button. This will change the camera parameters according to the preview viewport parameters. Press the "Save" button to save the change.
