Norton Protection is not a replacement for the Recycle Bin. Rather, it enhances the capabilities of the Recycle Bin by protecting additional files that would otherwise be unprotected. So when you empty the Recycle Bin, the files protected by Norton Protection remain untouched. Unlike the Recycle Bin, it protects overwritten files, files deleted from within a Windows application, and files deleted from an MS-DOS window. When it comes to file recovery, it's always better to be safe than sorry. So it's a good idea to enable Norton Protection, which dramatically improves your chances of recovering a deleted file with UnErase Wizard. (Of course, UnErase Wizard can still run even if you aren't using Norton Protection.)
Norton Protection is enabled by default when you install Norton Utilities. To enable
it manually, right-click on the Norton Protected Recycle Bin icon, and then click
Properties. Then check the Enable Protection check box in the Norton Protection tab.
Remember, you can get What's This? help by right-clicking on any dialog box item.
