2000 ToolBox

2000 ToolBox, from Network Associates, provides a complete view of the year 2000 problems that may exist on a PC. The product automatically performs a complete audit of the PC's hardware and software and generates recommendations on Y2K problem resolution.

2000 ToolBox is the only consumer product available that addresses the three key Y2K areas: hardware, software and data files. Additionally, 2000 Toolbox is the only solution that applies built-in knowledge of how more than 100 top-selling software programs are affected by date dependencies. 2000 ToolBox also includes a complete set of tools to safeguard the user's system in preparation for the new century, including McAfee Image/Restore, Registry Backup, Discover, WinGauge Lite, McAfee Rescue Disk, and virus detection based on VirusScan.

Network Associates, Inc., headquartered in Santa Clara, California, which was formed by the merger of McAfee Associates and Network General, is a leading supplier of enterprise network security and management solutions.

Network Associates' Net Tools Secure and Net Tools Manager offer best-of-breed, suite-based network security and management solutions. The Net Tools suite centralizes these point solutions within an easy-to-use, integrated systems management environment.

Unlike other Y2K desktop software, 2000 ToolBox addresses the three critical areas that could be problematic with the date change to 1/1/2000: hardware, pre-packaged software and data files.

2000 ToolBox Features:

  • checks user's data files for unusual dates which may have been entered incorrectly due to the Y2K rollover or that could cause problems after the date rollover
  • checks for and alerts the user to databases and spreadsheets that are formatted as two-digit years that could cause confusion after the Y2K rollover
  • optionally reformats spreadsheet and database fields with two-digit year formats to display four-digit years
  • scans for applications which have Y2K problems and informs users of potential problems or special situations
  • checks for Y2K Real Time Clock Hardware, BIOS, and OS problems and provides a fix for non-compliant systems.
2000 ToolBox also includes: virus detection; McAfee Image, which safeguards critical parts of the users hard drive in case of failure; registry backup, which allows the user to make back-up copies of the critical Windows Registry database; DiscoverùNetwork Associates' award-winning system analysis toolùwhich helps the user identify various hardware components in their system in case of a Y2K related problem; WinGauge Lite, which monitors the user's system and alerts the user to potential problems; and McAfee Rescue Disk, which creates an emergency rescue disk that allows the user to recover their system in the event of a catastrophe.

2000 ToolBox operates in Windows 95 and Windows 98 environments.
