DateWise Abater for Excel
How many
spreadsheets in your organization are copies or updates of a
spreadsheet that exist on the same drive or another PC it has been
copied to? If one employee creates a spreadsheet and emails it to a
dozen of his co-workers and each recipient shares it with a dozen
others, how many times do you want to remediate that one
spreadsheet? Most companies will remediate that one spreadsheet over
100 times. Why? There was no way to identify identical spreadsheets.
Most
companies are finding dozens to hundred of spreadsheets on each hard
drive and conclude that remediation of all of these spreadsheets is
impossible. If the truth were known, most of those are just copies
of spreadsheets that originated somewhere else or are updated each
period with new information. But there has been no way to identify
spreadsheets that are structurally similar.

which differs in the dates without telling the computer where the
dates are or the format of any specific date (or even by what time

It solves the problem of finding identical and structurally similar
spreadsheets enterprise wide.
DateWise
Abater for Excel analyzes Excel spreadsheets to find identical and
structurally similar spreadsheets no matter where they are located
within the company. Instead of remediating a spreadsheet every time
the identical spreadsheet it is encountered on various hard drives,
it can be remediated once. That one step will cut the quantity of
spreadsheets significantly.
Structurally similar spreadsheets are identical in every
significant way except for the data. Since the remediation process
on these spreadsheets will be identical, many steps can be skipped
if they are remediated together.
The tool
works using a DOS based module that scans drives analyzes
spreadsheets and creates a file with one record for each
spreadsheet. The process takes about as long as it would take to
copy the spreadsheets. The files from individual PCs are transferred
to a central computer and appended together. The central computer
identifies identical and structurally similar records. Whenever a
spreadsheet is to be remediated, the central file is checked for
identical or structurally similar Excel spreadsheets.
