Norton 2000 Corporate Edition

Your organization's Year 2000 exposure extends to your desktops as well as to your mainframe and network applications. You need to prevent hardware or software ambivalence in mission-critical data residing on desktop and laptop computers. Even more importantly, you need to resolve desktop-level Y2K anomalies when data is downloaded from or uploaded to mainframe computers - or risk having errors reintroduced into the system.

Norton 2000 makes it easy to resolve the three main Y2K issues for desktops: hardware problems such as the BIOS, commercial off-the-shelf application compliance, and end user created data.

Norton 2000 is a comprehensive solution for desktop and laptop computers in distributed computing environments, integrating with Norton System Center to provide single-console administration. It includes a BIOS test and fix, as well as a data-scanning component that discovers Y2K problems in spreadsheets and database files and a Fix Assistant for MS Excel files. Norton 2000 will also audit installed applications on each PC against a database of Y2K compliant applications, as reported by each vendor. Symantec's LiveUpdate technology ensures that your application database is kept current. In addition, detailed reporting options can help you pinpoint specific problems and track your organization's remediation effort.

Norton 2000 parses and detects potential Year 2000 problems in many of the most popular spreadsheet and database applications such as MS Excel, Lotus 1-2-3, Quattro Pro, MS-Access, Paradox and dBASE as well as end user written applications. Files not recognized as database or spreadsheet files are also examined with an Unformatted File Scanner.

Norton 2000 identifies and reports on all two-digit dates near a conversion cusp, dates that will change value with a software upgrade, spreadsheet functions that reference problematic cells and Norton 2000 also examines Visual Basic source code and macros embedded in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and indicates date-related computations and variables. For databases, problematic tables and fields as well as screen data masks are identified. Additionally, for easy identification of problems in Excel worksheets, Norton 2000 can color-code and annotate a copy of the original file and provide assisted remediation.
