Usage Import

Usage Import allows you to import log files that contain usage data about your site into the Microsoft« Site Server Express Analysis database. Usage Import applies logic during import in order to reconstruct data about visit activity to your site. You can then start Report Writer and run reports on the data. You must configure Usage Import before you can import log files correctly. The following sections discuss the options that allow you to control and customize the way in which data is imported:

After Usage Import has been configured, you can import log files. You can also use Usage Import to delete imported log files and requests.

Use the following tools to configure and manage Usage Import:

• Server Manager. Configure Usage Import to import log files.
• Import Manager. Import log files.
• Import History Manager. View information about imported log files, or delete imported log files and requests.

Use the Scheduler to automate many of the tasks you can perform in the Import Manager and Import History Manager.

Caution

Close Usage Import before starting Report Writer and running reports. Failure to do so may result in inaccurate data in your reports.
