PMFormat Help ═══ See ABOUT PMFormat and REGISTER PMFormat provides a Presentation Manager Interface for the Format utility provided with OS/2. OS/2's regular Format utility is used so disks formatted under PMFormat are completely standard. The setup dialog allows you to state the drive to format, density of the disk, and a volume label. Note: Use the Def density button if the disk is the same density as the default for the drive or leave the setting blank. ═══ 3.1. Drive Help ═══ The floppy drives defined to your computer are listed here. Use the mouse or cursor to highlight the drive letter to be formatted. PMFormat does not list the Hard Drives. ═══ 3.2. Disk Size Help ═══ The buttons located within this group are used to set the disk size for format. If the disk is to be formatted at the same density as the drives standard setting do not set a button or choose Def. Choose a button by clicking the Left Mouse button when the mouse cursor is on the desired button or by using the TAB and Cursor keys to move to the desired button and press the Space bar. ═══ 3.2.1. 360 k ═══ Choose this for Low density 5 1/4 inch disks. Only choose this if the drive and diskette sizes are different. ═══ 3.2.3. 1.2 m ═══ Choose this for 1.2 Meg High density 5 1/4 inch disks. Only choose this if the drive and diskette sizes are different. ═══ 3.2.4. 1.4 m ═══ This button sets format for High density 1.4 meg 3 1/2 inch drives. Only choose this if the drive and diskette sizes are different. ═══ 3.2.5. 2.8 m ═══ The setting for the new IBM 2.8 meg 3 1/2 inch disks. Only choose this if the drive and diskette sizes are different. ═══ 3.2.6. Def ═══ Use this to choose the default setting for the selected disk drive. Format will not work if the specified size is the same as the drives default setting. ═══ 3.3. Label Help ═══ Enter a volume label for the disk in this entry field. Format Complete ═══ This dialog provides you with the information given by Format when it is done. The volume label, Serial number, Total disk size, and Available bytes are listed. ═══ 5.1. Label ═══ This is the volume label entered by you. It will be blank if you did not enter a volume label. ═══ 5.2. Serial ═══ This is the disk's serial number. The serial number is created by the operating system and is unique for all disks created on the same machine. ═══ 5.3. Total Bytes ═══ This is the total number of bytes of data space on the disk. ═══ 5.4. Available Bytes ═══ This is the number of bytes of data space currently free on the disk. This should match the Total Bytes on a newly formatted diskette. ═══ 6. Time Out ═══ Format has not output any messages for the maximum allowed time. Some versions of Format will not time out properly if a disk is formatted at a density greater than it is designed for. If you know the selected density is correct you may need to increase the timeout value. The time out factor is 50 by default. Enter a larger value on the command line when starting PMFORMAT or place a larger value in the Parameter field of the program setup to increase the default value.
