CRIME STOPPERS BULLETIN NBR. 90 HAMILTON CRIME STOPPERS FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 9, 1992 RAILYARDS - ARSON Police aren't sure what motive lay behind a $325,000 arson at one of Canadian Pacific's railroad yards. It was July 20, 1992. Engineers had parked a bi-level railroad car overnight in the Montrose Yards, Niagara Falls. The railroad car was delivering twelve new vehicles from the factory to a car dealership. Arson investigators believe that some time after 10:00 p.m., suspects entered the Montrose Yards. They may have checked several other box cars on the tracks. The suspects climbed onto the railroad car and forced open a door to one of the vehicles. They stuffed newspapers under the seats and dash, then set the vehicle on fire. The fire quickly spread to other vehicles on the railroad car and suspects ran off. They left a dozen vehicles in flames behind them. The fire was discovered at 3:00 a.m. Units from the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded but the railroad car was completely engulfed in flames. If you have any information on this or any other serious crime, call Crime Stoppers at 522-TIPS. That's 522-8477, to be eligible for up to a $1,000.00 cash reward. Remember, in all cases you will not have to reveal your identity. dpp 11/11/92
