Hansen Container Corp entered a plea of guilty � � on 8-20-92, pursuant to a plea agreement, to one felony count of storage � � & disposal of hazardous waste at its Grand Junction facility. Previously,� � Hansen Jr, the co's president, & Bilney, the company's administrative � � ass't, each plead guilty to misdemeanor violations of the Clean Air Act & � � were sentenced to serve a 30-day period of incarceration & pay a fine of � � $10,000. The convictions relate to activities occurring at the Grand � � Junction facility in '87 during which time Hansen Container Corp operated � � a drum reconditioning facility. Hansen Container obtained used 55 gallon � � drums from a variety of industrial sources & collected the drums at its � � Grand Junction site. Employees would dump liquid hazardous waste onto � � the ground & burn hazardous waste which remained in the used drums. The � � co operated the burner illegally & caused dense plumes of black smoke & � � lead waste to be released into the environment.
