Creating an assigned hot-spare drive

Use this action to assign a hot-spare drive to a logical device. An assigned hot-spare drive is a dedicated spare: it used only to rebuild the logical device to which it is assigned. Unassigned hot-spare drives are "global" — they can be used to rebuild any logical device on the controller.

Note: You cannot assign a hot-spare drive while a logical device is building or being modified (such as a logical device migration).

1. In the Physical devices view, click (ready physical drive).
   
   
2. Right-click Create assigned hot-spare drive for the logical device name. The Adaptec Storage Manager creates a dedicated hot-spare drive for the logical device.
