NetWare/IP Administration Help Help 1 of 3 The NetWare/IP Administration menu allows you to manage all aspects of setting up a primary DSS server, a secondary DSS server, or a NetWare/IP server. You can select one of the following options from this menu: Configure NetWare/IP Server This option allows you to configure this server as a NetWare/IP server by defining the NetWare/IP domain. =Exit Help =Nextq NetWare/IP Administration Help Help 2 of 3 Delete NetWare/IP Configuration This option allows you to remove all NetWare/IP configuration information on this server. You should use this option to deconfigure NetWare/IP on this machine. Configure Primary DSS This option allows you to configure this server as the primary DSS. You must configure a primary DSS for NetWare/IP to function. =Exit Help =Next NetWare/IP Administration Help Help 3 of 3 Configure Secondary DSS This option allows you to configure this server as a secondary DSS. You should configure at least one secondary DSS server to provide redundancy. Delete DSS Configuration This option deconfigures this server as a DSS. You should use this option if you do not want this server to be a DSS or you want to change the server from a primary DSS to a secondary DSS or vice versa. NetWare/IP Server Configuration Help Help 1 of 5 This screen contains allows you to view or enter the NetWare/IP domain. The NetWare/IP domain conforms to the same naming conventions as DNS. The NetWare/IP domain must reside at the bottom of the DNS hierarchy: it cannot delegate authority to domains below it. This domain must encompass all nodes (servers and clients) in the NetWare/IP internetwork. It includes all nodes serviced by the primary DSS and its secondaries, regardless of where the hostnames of those nodes fall within the DNS hierarchy. =Exit Help =Next NetWare/IP Server Configuration Help Help 2 of 5 If this machine is acting as a gateway and has two boards, an additional field appears which asks you to select the Preferred IP Address. (NetWare/IP can only bind to one board.) Pressing on this field displays a list of available IP addresses. Select the preferred IP address from the list. Preferred DSSes This option allows you to optimize the network traffic between this Netware/IP server and the =Exit Help =Next NetWare/IP Server Configuration Help Help 3 of 5 the DSS that this server uses. A DSS preference is specified by providing either a DSS hostname (or ip address) or a partial address (to be used in selecting those DSSes whose ip address matches the given partial ip addres). Initial DSS Contact Retries The number of times the NetWare/IP server retries contacting a DSS at startup. This is useful when the Netware/IP server starts before any of the DSSes are ready. =Exit Help =Next NetWare/IP Server Configuration Help Help 4 of 5 Retry Interval Time between the Initial DSS contact retries. Slow Link Customizations This option allows this server to access remote Netware/IP servers over slow links (otherwise, some applications could time out when connected to remote servers). This won't be necessary in most cases. Where necessary, you should customize by providing a remote ip network/host and the approximate one-way time it takes to ping to a host on the remote site. =Exit Help =Next NetWare/IP Server Configuration Help Help 5 of 5 Time is specified in Ticks (1/18th s). Use the NetWare ping utility to get a time estimate. Forward IPX Information to DSS Specifies whether this NetWare/IP server should act as a forwarding gateway. A forwarding gateway connects IP and IPX network segments. The default is no. Primary DSS Configuration Help Help 1 of 3 You use this form to configure the primary DSS. You must configure the primary DSS for NetWare/IP to function. The primary DSS supports all servers and clients on a NetWare/IP internetwork, allowing you to set up a centralized administrative domain. Once configured, the primary DSS handles SAP/RIP requests and database replication automatically. It is recommended that a server that has relatively low utilization be designated primary DSS. =Exit Help =Next Primary DSS Configuration Help Help 2 of 3 This form contains the following fields: NetWare/IP Domain This field contains the NetWare/IP domain. The NetWare/IP domain conforms to the same naming conventions as DNS. Primary DSS Hostname This field contains the fully qualified hostname of the server. For example, hostname.domain.com. Primary DSS Configuration Help Help 3 of 3 IPX Network Number (in hex) This field displays the IPX external network number. You can assign an arbitrary hexadecimal number, one to eight digits (1 to FFFFFFFF), but the number must be unique for the IPX network. Tunable Parameters This field contains the DSS tunable parameters. Pressing on this field displays the Tunable Parameters form. You can view and modify the parameters from the form.B Secondary DSS Configuration Help Help 1 of 2 You use this form to configure a secondary DSS. You must configure a primary DSS before configuring a secondary. The secondary DSS provides for faster service and redundancy. Each secondary contains a read-only copy of the DSS database that automatically obtains information from the primary DSS. Therefore, it is recommended that you configure one secondary DSS per subnetwork. =Exit Help =Next Secondary DSS Configuration Help Help 2 of 2 This form contains the following fields: NetWare/IP Domain This field contains the NetWare/IP domain. The NetWare/IP domain conforms to the same naming conventions as DNS. Primary DSS Hostname This field contains the fully qualified hostname of the primary DSS server. For example, hostname.domain.com. Press to continue. DNS Client Help Help 1 of 1 You use this form to configure DNS. You must set up DNS, before you configure a DSS or NetWare/IP server. This form contains the following fields: DNS Domain Enter the fully qualified DNS domain name. Nameserver Enter the IP address of the first DNS nameserver to contact to resolve queries. Use the additional Nameserver fields to identify secondary and tertiary nameservers. Tunable Parameters Help Help 1 of 3 This form allows you to view and modify the DSS parameters. If you decide to modify any parameter after your initial configuration, you must stop and then restart each server in the NetWare/IP internetwork and then each client must logout and then log into the network. This form contains the following fields: UDP Port Number for NetWare/IP Service This parameter specifies the port numbers assigned for NetWare/IP service. The configuration process assigns two consecutive ports. The default is 43981 in a range of 1 to 65535. =Exit Help =Next Tunable Parameters Help Help 2 of 3 DSS-Netware/IP Server Synchronization Interval This parameter specifies how often a NetWare/IP server queries DSS for updated information. The default is 5 minutes in a range of 1 to 60. Primary-Secondary DSS Synchronization Interval This parameter specifies how often a secondary DSS queries the primary DSS for updated information. Maximum UDP Transmissions This parameter specifies how often the same packet information is re-sent if no acknowledgment is received. The default is 3 times in a range of 1 to 48. =Exit Help =Next Tunable Parameters Help Help 3 of 3 UDP Checksum? This parameter specifies whether transmitted information should be checked for errors. The default is No, to provide the fastest transmission service. Ticks between Netware/IP Nodes These parameters specify the approximate one-way time (in ticks, 1 tick = 1/18 sec) between two Netware/IP nodes on the same IP subnet, same IP net and different IP nets.
